Perfect for warm and salty waters, this high-quality, robust anchor chain made of seawater-resistant, rustproof and high-strength DUPLEX stainless steel, material 1.4462, is the ideal anchor chain for you and your boat. Due do the high stress caused by corrosion and pitting in warm waters, when buying an anchor chain, it is particularly important to look at the material from which the chain is made, because from the outside, anchor chains made of stainless steel look the same.
The warmer and saltier the water, the greater the risk of corrosion and pitting, resulting in a much lower breaking load of the anchor chain compared to its original strength. Anchor chains made of rust and acid-resistant DUPLEX stainless steel 1.4462 are more corrosion-resistant and have a higher strength than anchor chains made of conventional stainless steel. The pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN) is important when comparing corrosion resistance. This predictive measurement is determined in special tests and is an indication of a material's resistance to corrosion.
In addition to better corrosion resistance, DUPLEX anchor chains have a further advantage: Due to the stronger material, you can choose a smaller chain diameter for the same breaking load, which saves weight on board and also allows you to choose a longer chain of the same weight. Furthermore, due to its smooth surface, the stainless steel anchor chain falls evenly into the anchor locker and doesn't pile up, as can be the case with galvanised anchor chains.
