„I often have the issue with sailing gloves that the three long fingers are a little too short for me, even if the hand width is a perfect fit. (Size L fits me in terms of hand width, and XL in terms of finger length.) This tends to be the case with Musto gloves as well, but less pronounced than with Gill or Harken. I bought the Musto gloves in XL. The finger length is perfect, and there's still enough room for my thumb to stick out (unlike Gill gloves in XL). They're incredibly comfortable. Interestingly, I don't even notice the palm being cut slightly too wide for my liking in practice – the gloves still provide a good grip and hold on the rope. It's also easy to wear a regatta watch at the same time. The material and workmanship appear to be of very high quality.“

Why are gloves so useful when sailing?

Things can get rough on the high seas, and it's easy to get a finger caught or suffer an injury on a rope in the heat of the moment. For this reason, sailing gloves are designed specifically to offer protection from the rigours of water sports. Their special, high-quality workmanship protects your fingers and hands when sailing. On top of that, many gloves give you more grip when working with sheets and lines. For excellent fit and comfort, gloves are made with flexible mesh fabric and have other features such as stretch inserts and velcro fastenings. Waterproof and windproof sailing gloves offer special protection. However, sailing gloves with neoprene will keep your hands particularly warm in wet conditions. A matching pair of gloves not only completes your outfit on board, they are also an indispensable part of your boating equipment.
To be perfectly kitted out on board, a sailing outfit should consist of a sailing jacket, sailing trousers, sailing shoes and sailing gloves.
