Low Costs: An LED is initially more expensive than a conventional light bulb. However, after energy consumption and lifetime are taken into account, the actual cost looks quite different: With a power consumption of one to three watts, LED bulbs soon outshine regular lighting. LED lights are nearly unbreakable: Frequent switching from on to off does not stress an LED, their average lifetime of 50,000 hours (at 12 V constant voltage) only indicates the moment when they gradually lose their luminosity. In that life span, you would have to replace a normal light bulb around 50 times and a halogen bulb around 12 times.

Pleasant light colour of LED: Any reservations people may have regarding uncomfortable light from an LED bulb probably stem from those simple high lights which produce a white light with a high blue component. High-quality LEDs are no longer like this. Their neutral white light colour is as pleasant as halogen light. The design of the bulb head and glass significantly affects the light emitted. Although warm white LEDs can increase individual comfort, they are less bright due to higher proportions of the colour yellow.

Light output of the LED: A three-watt LED is sufficient as a reading light or wall or ceiling light on your boat or even at home. A 9x1 watt fitted ceiling light shines about as bright as a conventional 60W bulb or a 35W halogen capsule - with all the advantages of LED modules of lifespan, energy consumption and switching capability.

LED lights emit no harmful UV or IR radiation and contain no quicksilver. Due to the longevity (several thousand hours) and vibration resistance - very important for mobile use - LED technology is often associated with a significant cost saving.
