Colour rendering is a quality characteristic of artificial light (light sources) compared to natural light. A light source whose light contains all spectral colours, as in sunlight, makes the colours of illuminated objects appear natural – the colour rendering is optimal. The Colour Rendering Index (CRI) defines, on a scale of 0 to 100, the extent to which the light source renders natural ambient colours. The higher the CRI, the more natural the colours appear under the light.
