Notes on splicing work:

lease note that this item only includes the splicing service WITHOUT rope. All splices are handmade and are custom-made for you after you place your order. For the following three splices – wire rope splice, rope connection splice or endless splice – please fill out our DATASHEET and send it to our email address: [email protected]

Depending on the availability of the rope, the production time is approx. 8-12 working days plus shipping.

This stripped eye splice is suitable for a Dyneema core braid.
A strippede eye has a few advantages over a conventional eye. Firstly, the stripped sheath gives it a smaller diameter, making it easier to pull through narrower eyelets. Another reason is that the sheath no longer needs to be spliced into the rope, which makes the splice zone much more flexible.
This type of splice is also a popular solution in regatta sports, as the removed sheath saves weight.
All splices are handmade and customised for you according to your order. Available for different rope diameters.

Suitable for the following ropes:

  • Racer
  • Dynamic Color
  • Regatta 2000

Everything you need to know about splicing

The splice addition in the image is intended for a splice with an eye of up to 40 cm. If a further splice is required, e.g. on the other end, the splice addition must also be taken into account. Otherwise, in the case of a one-ended splice, the opposite end is always whipped. For an eye splice of more than 40 cm in length, an additional 50 cm must be added to the existing splice addition.
Note: The exact eye length is measured by pulling the eye lengthwise and measuring the distance from left to right (clear dimension).

What exactly is splicing anyway?
Splicing is the term used to describe the unbreakable and lasting bond and repair of fibre and wire ropes by the intertwining of the individual strands. When the rope is stressed, the splice contracts and the various strands become locked together by themselves.

Why is splicing still done by hand?
The reason for this is to ensure that the fibres are not damaged, punctured or cut through completely during splicing, as this considerably weakens the breaking load. Since machines do not yet exist that are error-free, humans are still better at making the splices themselves today.
You should also refrain from using simple knots to join rope, as the breaking load is reduced by up to 50%, whereas the rope only loses up to 10% of its breaking load (in relation to the linear breaking load) with a properly executed splice. We also recommend not to crimp ropes, as ropes stretch under load, become thinner and the connection can come loose unexpectedly.

Do it yourself

You can also do the splicing yourself. To do this, you need the right tools as well as the relevant know-how. We recommend our splice set with bag or alternatively the tools individually.

Important!

Please indicate the desired eye length at the end of the order in the "additional notes" field.
For a spliced eye an additional length of approx. 1.5 m of rope is required.
