The IRIS 50 is a clear indication that a good handbearing compass doesn't need to cost the earth. Sturdy, with excellent protection against hard knocks, the compass uses an infinity prism to project the bearing onto the object that you're looking at. The IRIS 50 compass provides accurate heading information with accuracy <1°.

Note: When using the IRIS 50, hold between the two fore fingers and the thumb, and bring it level to your eye, aligned with your nose. Hold the bearing compass straight and look into the prism in front of your eye. The large bearing line is then superimposed onto the object in sight. With a little practice, using it becomes instinctive. Aim the compass at the target and you can read the bearing as with rear sight and front sight. Even if the boat moves around a lot, the card moves too, and can be read with accuracy nevertheless. When using, if you turn your head in the direction of the bearing without changing the position of the compass, this will result in the most optimum measurement.
