Racor's Turbine series filters/water separators are highly efficient fuel filter systems for all types of diesel engines, satisfying customers for more than 25 years. In a three-stage system, they filter out all solids and liquid impurities (which are heavier than diesel fuels) that can cause faults. Method of operation of Racor filters/water separators as follows:
Stage 1 - Separation of solid impurities (up to 30 microns) and liquid impurities by the centrifugal action of the separator (centrifuge). At this stage, 30% of all impurities are filtered out.
Stage 2 - Collection of fine particles (up to 15 microns). Particles in a suspended state rise with the fuel into the upper part of the conical insert (cone) and collect on its inclined surfaces. The larger and heavier parts that develop over time sink to the bottom of the sight glass (bowl) to the impurities separated in the first stage.
Stage 3 - ultra-fine filtering of the fuel in the Racor replacement cartridge (insert). Separation of the remaining particles up to 2 microns (96%). Replacement cartridges are available in 10 and 30 microns. A 30 micron element serves as an initial filter in double or triple filters for pre-filtration of very poor fuel qualities. The fuel must then pass through a 10 micron element. A 10 micron element is usually used as a secondary filter and/or final stage filter for use in poor fuel qualities.
The combination of all three stages results in 100% separation of the free water (according to DIN ISO 4020).
Note: The Racor filter/water separators are designed in such a way to be installed in the suction line of the fuel feed pump. However, they can also be installed in the outlet side; in this case, the pressure must not exceed 103 kPa.
''Micron'' is the unit of measurement used to determine the size of dirt particles in liquids that are filtered with a filter.
