Bow thruster SX50S1 Hydropod under Hurley 800 Product works perfectly under a Hurley 830 (8.30m x 2.75 3.5 T) The installation under an S-frame ship was not easy, but it was done with 2 people in one day. The boat is not noticeably slower with the SX50S1. The boat (moderately long keel) was difficult to maneuver one-handed in the harbour. With the part (and a self-made remote control) port maneuvers are fun again.

This compact and practical SX series bow and stern thruster from SIDE-POWER is externally mountable and ideally suitable for boats where a tunnel bow thruster cannot be installed, regardless of the hull shape, material and propulsion system.
The SX models can be used in all types of boats, from sailboats and motorboats to catamarans with steel, aluminium, wood or GRP hulls.
As the external bow thruster is installed further forward towards the bow compared to a conventional tunnel bow thruster and has a significantly lower installation position, a much better leverage effect is achieved. This means that the EX series bow thrusters can move considerably larger boats with a lower nominal power.

Features

Hydrodynamic design
Very short cross channel and ideal positioning reduce water resistance compared to conventional systems. Loss of speed is not noticeable.

Easy installation
Only the installation holes are required, which are sealed with special rubber gaskets. No laminating necessary.

Noise reducing
External design results in significant noise reduction. Deeper installation position for minimal cavitation.

Longer operating times
The external mounting position under the hull allows efficient cooling. This results in considerably longer operating times than with conventional systems.

Space-saving installation
The external construction of the unit saves a lot of space on board compared to conventional systems.

Optimum efficiency
The significantly shorter cross tunnel and ideal leverage effect due to the deeper installation position, further away from the pivot point, result in optimum efficiency. This enables an increase in efficiency of up to 40% compared to conventional systems.

Quality
All components of the SX series are carefully constructed coordinated so that the systems meet the highest quality requirements. Manufactured in our ISO-certified factory in Fredrikstad.

i-BOX - Intelligent system control
  • Minimum electronic switching delay in case of abrupt change of thrust direction
  • Permanent monitoring of the relay function
  • Automatic deactivation of the bow thruster in case of a malfunction of the relay, additional actuation of the main switch is not necessary
  • Compatibility with all Side-Power bow and stern thrusters is guaranteed by using standard Side-Power components.

Nothing for laypeople
Has been built in and works immediately. But outdated instructions (also in the network and at the manufacturer) There are not 3 holes to drill but 6th instructions not in German (a shame). The adaptation to the respective hull is poorly described. Drilling template is missing. Sealing the 6 drill holes is a bit tricky. The side tunnels clicked into place really, really hard. Positive. With the appropriate cable, the electrical connection is really easy to make. Incomprehensible hull stickers for 5 euros are not included.

No detailed drawing showing the installation sequence of the included parts. Text and error are required.
Installation is very difficult.
Sealing is catastrophic.
There are certainly better solutions than the included Maschmellos. These only sealed after several attempts.

With my current knowledge, I would perform the installation differently based on my experiences.

vielen Dank für Ihr konstruktives Feedback.
Wir arbeiten daran, eine deutsche Montageanleitung zu erstellen und bitten weiterhin um etwas Geduld.
Grundsätzlich wurde die SX35/50-Serie und deren Vorgängerserie EX95S bzw. EX70C in Verbindung mit den Kompressionsdichtungen bereits seit 2010 sehr erfolgreich tausendfach verkauft bzw. von Bootsherstellern, Nachrüstwerften sowie Privateigner problemlos verbaut.
Beachtet man die Angaben der Montageanleitung (mind. 10% Kompression benötigt - sprich, die Dichtungen sollten mind. 10% länger sein, als der Durchmesser des Rumpfes an der Montageposition und setzt man zusätzlich MS Polymer ein), ist die Dichtigkeit sofort und dauerhaft gegeben.
Mittlerweile haben unsere Kunden auch die Möglichkeit, die externen Strahlruder der SX35/50-Serie ohne die entsprechenden Neopren-Dichtungen und lediglich unter Verwendung von MS-Polymer zu verbauen. Somit fallen die Bohrlöcher entsprechend kleiner aus (32 bzw. 10mm).
Die Praxis zeigt jedoch, dass die meisten Kunden unserer SX-Serie die Dichtungen zusätzlich bestellen, da diese zu 100% ihren Zweck erfüllen und zusätzlich als eine Art Vibrationsdämpfer wirken und somit einen Großteil der durch den Motor bzw. Propeller/Getriebefuß verursachten Vibrationen nicht auf den Rumpf übertragen werden.
Abschließend hoffen wir, dass unsere Stellungnahme für Sie bzw. alle unserer Kunden hilfreich war.
