So far I have processed with the set DynaLite (core in core) and Harkon (core in sheath - sheath in core) in different diameters. The set has proven to be a really useful tool. Since the fids are not seamless tubes, there is a bump in the middle of the tube. At this point, depending on the material and braid of the rope individual threads can get caught. But in no way detracts from the utility value of the Fid-Set. All in all: a good tool!

The fid set is of excellent quality and the delivery was quick and problem free. The instructions are good but if this is your first effort at splicing - especially double braided rope - you might need a bit of extra help ie youtube

Great set of needles. Do exactly what they have to do. The supplied manual is slightly different from the descriptions that can be found on Youtube. (I personally think that is better; eg: http://www.samsonrope.com/Pages/SpliceInstructions.aspx).

The splicing with the fids is fine, material and workmanship without defects. But, one should not imagine the whole thing too easy. Splicing is not rocket science, but some eyes to practice with an old rope are already necessary before you get on the beautiful new rope. Instructions are available on the internet, but very few on Selma-Fids. The right lengths and distances should be tested (before it gets serious).

Can damage the core

The fid is not a pipe, rather it's bent inwards to create the shape, but there still is a small gap.
When splicing a tight rope, the core would get stuck in the gap and hence damaged while the fid was being pulled through the rope. I believe this design flaw was accepted for the sake of easy manufacturing.
Surely people still make it work, but it's far from ideal. I think next time I'd look at GLEISTEIN, but they are significantly more expensive.
