Description

The Dehler 38 is a remarkable sailing boat that was produced by Dehler Deutschland GmbH between 2010 and 2021. This model combines sporty performance with a high level of comfort and is characterised by innovative developments in design and functionality. The Dehler 38 offers outstanding seaworthiness and is suitable for experienced sailors and beginners alike. Top features include a powerful hull, a spacious cockpit area and elegant lines that make the boat appealing at all times. The fast handling and the possibility of sailing with a short crew are particularly noteworthy. The size of the Dehler 38, with a length of 11.3 metres, provides sufficient space in the cabins and saloon. Compared to the Dehler 34, the Dehler 38 offers more space and comfort without losing any of its sporty characteristics. The Dehler 38 remains a favourite model for sailors who appreciate both performance and elegance.

Good boat, but poor, cheap workmanship. The boat sails well. But unfortunately, the workmanship is very, very, very poor. For over two years, debris fell out of the space between the deck and hull. Doors fell out because screws that were far too small were used. Parts of the ceiling lining also came loose, and hatch covers fell off. In bad weather, with waves crashing overboard, the sprayhood ripped from its moorings with screws that were far too small, and everything underneath it was gone. The cotter pin for the Furlex system was also lost, and the Furlex was bent. The worst part was that all the problems were dismissed by the after-sales department (in my case, Mr. Kassub) as being due to improper sailing. For example, my complaint about the sails—delamination starting after just over a year—was dismissed as improper handling, and every claim was rejected. However, an inquiry with Elvstrøm revealed that one batch had a problem with the adhesive, and Elvstrøm proactively provided new sails. In summary, it's a good boat in principle, but due to the very cheap and poor workmanship (including a lot of cheap plastic that has long since rotted) and the very, very poor service for a not exactly cheap product, I would choose a different boat today.
