Description
The Elan 36 is a 10.94 metre sailing yacht designed by J&J Design. It is propelled by sails and supported by an inboard engine as an auxiliary motor for harbour manoeuvres. The hull is designed with a single spade rudder and a comparatively deep fin keel for the time. A lead keel was also available as an option. The cockpit offers long benches and is designed for cruising with a crew. Below deck, the Elan 36 was often built as a 3-cabin version. It has a forward berth and two aft cabins, supplemented by saloon berths. It thus offers a space concept that was frequently in demand in this size class. The galley, navigation table and wet room are permanently integrated. Compared to the Elan 34, the Elan 36 offers significantly more interior volume and a more modern room layout. This makes the Elan 36 suitable for longer trips with family or charter crew.

ELAN 36 review A cruising 36 foot boat, fin keel, comparable to Bavaria. I bought a used boat (16 years old). Unfortunately, the inner wood styling and manufacturing is not as good as in Bavaria. Teak in cockpit was bad, I had to replace it completely after 18 years. Yanmar 3GM30F is a good motor, however boat lacks axial thrust bearing. Original alternator LR155 is not adapted for marine usage to fill house batteries effectively. Selden mast rigging is ok, rolling main sail allows easy handling with a single crew. Furlex 200 S rolling genoa is a standard. Qualtiy Whitlock Cobra 6R DeLuxe helm. Normal sailing speed 6 knots. Raymarine Tridata and ST4000 autopilot was a standard for 2002, and does its job effectively as long the sea is not rough. 3 cabins, 10 persons max. allowed, comfortable for 4 persons.
