Description
The Elan 40 is a 12.2 metre sailing yacht from Rob Humphreys' Performance series. It is powered by sails and supported by an inboard with saildrive, usually from Volvo Penta. The hull is performance-orientated and designed with a single, deep spade rudder. A characteristic feature is the very deep lead keel with a draught of around 2.05 metres, which contributes significantly to the high rigidity and upwind performance. The cockpit is wide and designed for sporty sailing with a small crew. Below deck, the Elan 40 was built as a 3-cabin version. It has a forward berth and two aft cabins, supplemented by saloon berths, galley, navigation table and wet room. Compared to the older Elan 38, the Elan 40 has a much more modern design and is consistently designed as a performance cruiser. The Elan 40 is therefore aimed at ambitious cruising sailors with a clear regatta focus.
