Electric Fans 75mm / 3 m³/min

Of course I can't say anything about the longevity so soon after the purchase. Since this review includes 4 different item numbers, I must first say that I bought item 32598, the 5 cbm/min 24V fan. But as I only found out now when replacing the old one, the smaller 3 cbm from Plastimo was originally installed on my ship by the shipyard, which can also be seen in the picture. That would be item 10260 and I would definitely recommend it as it lasted over 3000 hours on me. If I had known that beforehand, I probably would have gone for the smaller one again. Since I also saw the smaller one from Plastimo from other suppliers and it was listed there as not suitable for long-term use, I decided on the larger one after all. The differences: 10260 is from Plastimo, the rating plate says 24V 2A. The hose connection is not 75mm but 70mm. Performance according to SVB 3cbm/min, according to Plastimo 4cbm/min. 32598 is from Vetus (comes from Canada) has according to the enclosed data sheet 24V 4A and 4800 l/min output, the hose connection is not 75mm but 76mm (3"). Interestingly, the hoses I installed were 76mm and were on the 70mm with the hose clamps squeezed together. So the hoses fitted the larger fan snugly. I had to drill new holes for the flange on the bulkhead. The larger fan runs quieter from the humming noise, but you can now clearly hear the hiss of the airflow. It wasn't audible before , so the air throughput seems to be significantly higher than expected from the data sheet. The design is also more solid than with the Plastimo, but the motor is externally attached, with the Plastimo it is protected in a plastic housing. The radio interference suppression is much more complex with the Vetus , with 2 PI elements made of ferrite chokes and capacitors, compared to only one capacitor in the Plastimo Whether all that justifies the 2.5-fold price everyone has to judge for themselves. After a little over 3000 hours of operation, the Plastimo sometimes had start-up difficulties. The dissection showed that the carbon was almost completely gone, the carbon dust had stuck to the still good bearings. I think the price is great and that's why I would actually give the 'small' 5 stars. The big one has yet to prove itself, but I think the significantly higher airflow will keep the engine bay cooler and that will benefit some other aggregates like the inverter.

To be avoided by non-DIYers
Product unusable upon receipt. Easily repairable if you are a handyman. Not normal for a new product to have to do a complete disassembly to lubricate the motor bearings.

Not suitable for continuous operation!
The fan is only suitable for short-term operation. Since the suitability for the engine compartment is specified in the item description, I assumed that the engine compartment can be ventilated with it during operation. The fan is located in the locker on our sailing boat and sucks the heated ambient air out of the engine compartment. Unfortunately, the fan began to squeak after a very short time. In the NOK it then started to smell and then to smoke. The motor had overheated so much that the housing melted away. The heat was definitely coming from the electric motor and not from the outside. Wrapped in a fire blanket and disconnected from the fan, we were then able to continue driving. In the hope that this was an isolated case, I had the same fan sent to me and installed it. This started to squeak again after only 1 hour of engine operation. . . . I feared the worst! So as always, if you buy cheap, you buy twice. Then you'd better get one from Jabsco (serial no. 35115-0020).

Engine compartment fan not running well
We installed the fan in the control panel of our motor boat about 2 months ago. At first the fan ran normally. After 6 hours of continuous operation, it only made strange noises. We will now order a higher quality fan.

The fan ran for maybe an hour before the bearing made noise. A short time later it was fixed, the fuse then blew.\r\nA lot of time wasted installing and removing.\r\nThe SVB replaced it immediately, let's see if it works now.

After about 3-4 hours of operation, the fan began to whistle.\r\nSince I'm on the boat at the moment, I took it apart and greased the axle. At the moment it is running smoothly again. However, I am afraid that this will not last long and that I will have to send the thing back during the winter break.

Missing technical information
The part is on board as a spare. Now that I'm considering installing it, I've noticed that there are no documents. The power consumption isn't printed anywhere. Neither on the box nor on the device. I actually connect the appropriate fuse to each device. Can I do this with trial and error?

Not for continuous use for me
I used the fan for its 42-year-old predecessor. It was no match for continuous operation to cool the engine compartment. SVB will replace it immediately with a warranty replacement - super fast! Unfortunately, this one also failed. The carbon holders had melted on both fans, as had the housing.
The fan may be suitable for short-term operation.
With the advice of SVB we switched to another, in-line type.
