This little book is unusable due to the illustrations being too small and difficult to discern.

Two specific examples on page 6 explain the fender hitch. The photos don't show when the fender line should be led in front of and when behind the guardrail wire. The same applies to the clove hitch on page 7 and many other knots in the book.

I can't understand the positive reviews for this book.

The text would be fine if the pictures showed how to tie each knot. As it is, you're practicing blind – very frustrating! You can find much better descriptions on Wikipedia; search for "sailor's knots".
