Replacement for existing sensor

I have completely replaced the electrics of my old BMW D302 and wanted to use one with a measurement and alarm function instead of the existing sensor, which "only" measures the cooling water temperature. This sensor fits exactly into the existing hole and thread, but is a bit longer than the "original" (which was probably not original either). The temperature reading is displayed correctly by the new Kus instrument, the alarm value of 95 was (fortunately) not tested, I assume that when 95 is reached the alarm pole will be connected to ground as specified.

Attention Volvo Penta AQ170-B30 engines, 6 cylinder in-line, 3 litres

I bought this temperature sensor because I designed the entire dashboard with new instruments. The connection on my B30 is a 58"18UNF. I chose a suitable sensor from SVB. Delivery was done within 48 hours. I unpacked the sensor and wanted to screw it in. It doesn't fit. Sensor too long and too thick below the thread.

What to do?

I looked in my almost inexhaustible collection of screws and fittings for a suitable thread extension and found one. But here too the problem, the through hole was too small. So I put the part on the pillar drill and drilled the hole to 11mm. The sensor is 10.5mm. Now seal both threads with Teflon tape and screw it in.

Works.
