Carbon brushes do not last long

I had to replace the fan because the carbon brushes only lasted about 400 hours.
I replaced the carbon brushes, but I probably should have smoothed the commutator (too complicated), as the ones I replaced only lasted 200 hours.
Will try using a different motor.
