Superb to replace the original Syla (1986) cracked and become unreadable. Only downside, the 85 mm round cutout of the model to be replaced must be reworked for a 105 mm hexagonal cutout. To be done with care and skill

Excellent product

Had SILVA horizontal compass before, was good but over years become bleak , was damaged and start to lose liquid in side. Just to buy new was 400EUr. Decided to install wall compass and found that SILVA cost 180 EUR. Still not installed, but when unpacked it was really solid good quality compass.

Met my expectations, but I was expecting a slightly more robust product

two remarks the lighting does not facilitate visibility of the heading at night, no protective cover perhaps risk of premature aging

Good workmanship. Price and performance are right

good readability

This compass was a successor to an outdated Silva 100 that had looked further out of the ship's side. Since both components have almost the same installation dimensions, it was possible to change the opening with little effort. The holes in particular were congruent. The only disadvantage in my opinion. Unfortunately, this compass does not have a cover as sun protection when it is "out of service". So I fear faster aging due to uninterrupted UV exposure. I would especially like to thank Ms. Gerdes for the competent advice!

I installed the Silva 100 BH on my sailboat as a replacement for an older Silva compass of the same size.
It looks attractive and is very easy to read during the day.
We also like that it hardly protrudes outwards, so it hardly bothers you when you lean against it while sitting.
Much less than the old model.
But now to the cons
Despite the lighting, this compass is very difficult to read at night. While all possible parts, in particular the upper side of the rose (which is irrelevant for bulkhead mounting) and also the heeling scale are fully illuminated by the red light, the degree scale on the outside of the rose, which is important for bulkhead mounting, is in the light shadow and can hardly be read.
Only in heavy seas do you get enough information from the dancing rose with the occasional change in the incidence of light to be able to get an idea of the steered course from the tiller
The old, previously installed Silva compass was much better at this.
In my opinion a bad design for night driving.
Very disappointing!
It's also a pity that the manufacturer doesn't offer any covers (for the inwardly protruding back and outside to protect against UV light when not in use).
