A reliable battery
The batteries are very heavy but there is no alternative.
They are durable and hold their charge for a long time.

AGM battery, does what it is supposed to, stores power and releases it again.
So far everything is fine, let's see how long the battery lasts with average daily use on board.

AGM boat batteries
Quality boat batteries in the same size and capacity as the ones installed can be found inexpensively at SVB.
Delivery was made at short notice by a shipping company due to the weight of 200kg.
Very quick delivery.
Gladly again and again.

Too heavy for the handles
Vetus has obviously saved on the material for the handles. With the "old" batteries, you could still hoist them onto the raised boat with a rope. I didn't dare do that with the new batteries, as the handle was already bent quite badly when I lifted it by hand. The manager of the winter storage facility was kind enough to lift it up for me with a forklift.

Vetus AGM 140Ah
In February 2024, I purchased a Vetus 140Ah AGM leisure battery, which could no longer be charged by August 2025, even though the boat had been stored indoors at a minimum temperature of 14 degrees Celsius during the winter and the battery had been regularly charged.

Furthermore, the battery casing had warped significantly on both sides in the middle cell, making it extremely difficult to insert the battery into its designated battery compartment. Very thin-walled, cheap construction for the price of €420!

I will never buy another Vetus battery from SVB.

The service at the Kiel branch, provided by Mr. A. Stührck, was, in contrast to the branch manager, Mr. Suhr, extremely friendly, competent, and helpful.

Mr. Suhr, who had been aware of the problem with this battery for over two months at his branch, didn't even deem it appropriate to greet me as a customer in the warehouse next to my battery, which was there for inspection.

This man still works for AWN and will hopefully retire soon! With his bored appearance, he's not exactly an asset to the SVB branch in Kiel. The female employees are all very friendly, helpful, and considerate.

Sincerely,
Dr. Bernd Ohlenbusch
