Can be applied easily and well. Good coverage. Can also be used at low temperatures. Applied directly after sandblasting. Good adhesion

As always very good and very reliable
I like to buy from SVB - as long as the prices are kept very fair and the service and reliability stay that way and don't decrease. Greetings to the north!

Hempel Epoxy Primer
I have been using this primer on my boat for 30 years and it is ideally suited for underwater use.

Great stuff, left behind super smooth and glasharte surface. I protected my iron core from rust. The consistency makes the yield not too great.

Good to process. The durability has yet to show, but the first impression was very good.

Second review, this time the grey version
Correction to my rather negative review.

For contrast, I also ordered the gray version.

This thick-layer primer cannot be applied without streaks.

Foam brushes aren't the solution either. They leave very rough marks.

Now I've found a type of brush where it's acceptable.

The best result was achieved with a cross-hatch pattern when smoothing.

It's incredibly time-consuming when working alone.

According to the manufacturer, the pot life is 45 minutes at 20°C. I set the timer for 40 minutes, and by then it had already started to set at 25°C in the workshop. The humidity was 45%.

350ml from 210ml plus 140ml is the maximum I can get on my own.

Even professionals can't achieve a streak-free finish. You can see this in a video on Refit and Sail on YouTube.

Hempel
the product could be processed well! despite the low temperature, the drying times were faster than stated by the manufacturer.
Probably the worst thick-film primer
My last thick-film primer was Gelshield Plus from International. I had nothing bad to say about that primer. It also needed to be smoothed, but after that, the surface was flawless.

Hempel's HIGH PROTECT II is not comparable.

The 1.5 kg tub is beige, the 1 kg tub is white. If you wanted to mix both, there would be plenty of room in the 1.5 kg tub, which is only half full. Both are incredibly viscous.

You can create a fairly thick coat with a mohair roller. However, the texture remains.

The German instructions state:

"It is recommended to smooth out roller marks with a brush."

For the first coat, I smoothed it out with a brush immediately after rolling.

After the orange peel effect, I then had brush marks.

Once the primer had cured, I sanded it smooth with 320-grit sandpaper. Presumably, only half of the applied primer remained on the boat.

Second coat this morning. I smoothed it out today with a foam brush. Not quite as bad as the first time, but still streaked. After three hours, it was still wet.

For me, this product is only suitable for a keel that you then fill with filler.

I absolutely cannot recommend it. My first and last Hempel product.

Pure thick epoxy can be tinted and flows perfectly.
