For my 18-foot canoe (mahogany on steam-bent ash frames), which I'm retrofitting with an electric motor, I had to design a rudder system based on a historical model. I opted for a yoke on the rudder shaft, but instead of ropes like on rowing boats, it's moved by an attached pushrod.
