The compass I received has play that can't be eliminated by tightening the adjustment screw (then it would no longer be adjustable smoothly). On the SSS practice card (1325,000), the resulting error is 0.3. This is the maximum error in position determination accepted by the SSSSHS examination board. It may not matter in practice, but it always feels like you'd rather re-measure.

Unfortunately, my plotter has a built-in measurement error of 0.5 degrees on east-west courses. This doesn't matter in practice on board. However, it could easily be avoided if the device were a little better made. A measurement grid on the plotter would also be helpful, instead of the superfluous explanations about courses and current triangles. Personally, I also think it would be better if the centimeter scale were on the outside.
