Hi Gian Paolo, Order a coolant filter with a transparent cap—that way, you'll be able to see when it needs cleaning. Install it as high up as possible, between the seawater valve and the engine. Close the seawater valve, remove the lid, and fill it with fresh water (2 5-liter plastic bottles). Don’t forget to reopen the seawater valve before your next trip at the latest!! Hello from southern Spain. My MD 22 A-L is from 1995, has 638 engine hours, and when I go full throttle (which I actually never do), I also get a black exhaust plume. The boat was in freshwater in Switzerland until April 2024. Since June 2024, it’s been in the sea in southern Spain. I usually flush the cooling water system with 10 liters of freshwater after every use, or if the boat isn’t used for over a week. Do you guys do that too? What happens if I don’t? On the French canals, the speed limit was usually only 6 km. Even so, the engine only used about 1.3 liters! When cruising at full speed on the lake, fuel consumption was 2.5 L/hour (at 1,400–1,700 RPM). The engine has never given me any trouble so far!
