Alternator or separator charging fault
Hello, everyone
Here’s my problem: For the past few months (about 3), once the boat has warmed up to operating temperature, I get an audible warning along with a flashing battery icon on the dashboard.
I understand that, for whatever reason, the alternator isn’t charging the battery.
My question is this: how can I tell if it’s the alternator or the battery isolator that’s faulty?
I’m skeptical it’s the alternator because the engine has only 600 operating hours, and the battery isolator is the original one (a 120-amp Sure Power Model 1202 that’s 20 years old).
From what I’ve observed, it stops charging and then starts charging again very quickly (like a car’s turn signal—it’s acting really strangely).
Anyway, it’s got me worried.
Thank you very much
