Hey Krabat, I'm afraid that can't be changed because the sink is on the left. But I don't think it's very cramped. It's just a ship's bathroom! A hand's breadth, Jobst

.......this is what my old manifold looked like after 20 years. No wonder the engine didn't like that. It's important to run the bike at 2,500 rpm every once in a while for a good hour.........to prevent deposits from building up. Replacing the exhaust manifold is easy. I’d be happy to explain how if you’re interested.

Problem solved. I removed the exhaust manifold. It was completely clogged with diesel residue, except for a small opening. I installed a new manifold, and the engine is running perfectly!

Hi Andreas, the air intake isn't blocked—I just have a foam cap on the air tube. I'm going to remove the exhaust manifold now to see if it's clogged—the idea being that if nothing can get out, nothing can get in.....;-), if Tino G. can do it, I can manage it too.

The marina did a great job with the cleaning. I'm still debating the 4.5k charge, though.

Black smoke
Hi everyone, I have a new problem. Starting at around 1200 RPM, the engine starts smoking and emits black smoke (in addition to the coolant). The mechanic at our marina (it’s a VP branch) came by this morning and took a look, even though I’d already provided a detailed description. He left without offering a solution............ According to the manual, this can have various causes. Among other things, the thermostat may no longer be closing properly, causing the engine to run below its normal operating temperature. That seems like the most logical explanation to me.......The air supply is fine. Has anyone had a similar experience with the MD 2030 D? Best regards, Jobst

Hello Fabien, thank you for the information. There is a yellow sticker on the gearbox that says "Use only VP GL5 Syntetic Transmission oil", but I can't see which Saildrive it is. Do you have any ideas? Merci Jobst

Saildrive...which oil
Hi there, I have an MD 2030D on board. I'm not sure which gearbox oil the Saildrive wants. On the gearbox it only says to fill in synthetic oil but I also read that the normal engine oil 15W40 is to be used. Can anyone help me????? Greetings JR

Hi everyone, I'd like to share my latest experience and ask if anyone has ever had a similar experience. I've had the boat in the care of my marina for the last few weeks since the end of September, mainly for a saildrive service with a new sleeve and antifouling. Last weekend we came on board for the first time and found the engine compartment and bilge full of diesel oil (approx. 1 cm high). The boat was not locked and the seawater valve was open. Obviously everything that could be done wrong was done wrong. I reported this to the harbour master on Saturday and yesterday I wrote a report to the marina and my yacht insurance company. Do you have any experience of this? I can't imagine that the diesel smell alone will ever disappear from the boat.
