These alternators offer optimum performance at an affordable price. All units have a built-in controller, but can be supplied with a "Sterling" high-performance controller on request.

These alternators fit a wide variety of engines. Other special types of alternators are available upon request.

Which criteria should be considered when selecting a replacement alternator?
1. Robust construction
Marine alternators are usually operated under high loads. To achieve a long service life, they should be equipped with high-temperature grease, large cooling vents, large fans, high strength bearings and high-current diodes.

2. High performance
The alternator output should be between 25% - 40% of your total battery capacity.

3. Structural shape
Most replacement alternators are available in 4 different designs. The structural shape is determined by the width (B), number and spacing (C) of the attachment points (eyes). This can be compensated for with spacers.

4. Belt pulleys
Heavy-duty alternators require different belt widths according to their power. Up to 70A, a 3/8" (10mm) belt is required and up to 100A, a 1/2" (13mm) belt is required. For units above 100A, a double belt is recommended.

Note: The alternator is not grounded. B- is on the housing.

Lack of information
Solicited by telephone and email, SVB was unable to provide me with information concerning the compatibility of this product with a Volvo 2040D. Still bought despite an unclear email return on the subject because a little taken by the weather, I was lucky enough to be able to install it by adapting it (by filing the support too wide by 3mm and using for the tension adjustment point a second existing hole - for what purpose?-). A date on the device gives it a few years of manufacture already; old stock to sell? Apart from that it works normally with indeed a very good value for money.
