Will this mount hold a garmin 72 ?

Hello Frank, not perfect, because of maybe connected power/data-plug; the missing outlet at the back could be a problem....please take a look at garmin for available accessories, we also can deliver for the GPS72 https://buy.garmin.com/de-DE/DE/p/214#accessories.
