GARMIN SteadyCast Heading Sensor

Wonderful Garmin quality, NMEA2000 networked and identified immediately by my Axiom 12 unlocking all sorts of wonderful functionality. I fitted mine horizontally and in the true forward facing manner.

Calibration was automatic and accurate.

I bought it to replace one that I had that had stopped working and for the moment it perfectly fulfills its mission

Installation was easy, but calibration was anything but easy. I drove in circles a few times, initially I was too slow, but it worked at medium speed.
The compass reading drifts for some unknown reason. A search on the internet (which I should have done beforehand) shows that others are also reporting drift.
After almost exactly a year it died and I had to unplug it from the bus.
The installation location was under the bench seat in the salon, dry and there were no disturbing devices or metal parts nearby.
A software update/programming is only possible using a Garmin plotter, no PC software is available.
The low price compared to other products is therefore in line with its quality.
Conclusion: keep your hands off it!
