The SURVIVOR 06-LS RES manual desalination pump from KATADYN is particularly compact and lightweight. This makes it excellent for life rafts and individual emergency and survival gear. The smallest hand-operated desalination device in the world, the pump is approved to replace up to two-thirds of the water ration on board life rafts. Water is purified via reverse osmosis, a desalination process that uses a semi-permeable membrane to
separate water molecules from other substances. 10 % of the water penetrates the membrane, while the remaining 90 % flows past it. This has a double advantage, because it not only removes salt, but also continuously cleans the membrane. Thanks to the fine pores of the semipermeable membrane, the production of highly purified drinking water under high pressure (55 bar) is ensured, and all impurities, salts, and pollutants are blocked. The patented energy recovery system significantly reduces the required pumping effort. The pressure generated within the system is redirected through a bypass at the outlet of the pump, creating a large portion of the pressure for the next pumping stroke.
