The professional DC-DC charger ORION-TR SMART from Victron is ideal for dual battery systems in which the alternator and the starter battery are used to charge the service battery. The battery-to-battery charger can be monitored via Bluetooth, programmed and controlled via a remote switch.
The ORION-TR-SMART 12-48 is designed for systems in which the starter battery or alternator is based on 12 V, but the consumer side is deliberately designed for 48 V. The B2B charger can also be used as a voltage source.

Bluetooth Smart
Thanks to the Bluetooth function, you can monitor the unit and make changes, settings and software updates via a smartphone, tablet or similar.

Victron a guarantee
Having replaced the old lead-acid batteries with LiFePO4 batteries, I had to manage charging them with the engine's original alternator, which, being insufficiently large, overheated quickly, so I decided to install this DC-DC that allows me to decide how much current to draw from the alternator. All setup and control via cell phone.

Charging booster with very good efficiency, charging current continuously adjustable via app
The charging booster is currently being tested during our spring cruise.

So far, it's working perfectly!

I've replaced my lead-acid leisure batteries with three LiFePO4 batteries. The starter battery remains lead-acid.

My charging and power supply setup now consists of:

- 1 x Victron 15A mains charger for the lead-acid battery

- 1 x Victron 30A mains charger for the lithium batteries

- 1 x Victron 15A solar charge controller for the leisure batteries

- 1 x Victron 1212 50 charge booster

- 1 x Ective 300S battery box, 300Ah, approx. 3600W, primarily for mains-powered devices including TV, cool boxes, induction cooktops, Thermomix, contact grill, air fryer, etc.

I'm still working on fine-tuning the settings, because according to the Victron Connect A0, the leisure batteries are usually charged via the 15A charger, which is intended exclusively for the lead-acid starter battery, presumably indirectly. My new charging booster seems to think, even when connected to shore power, that my engine is running and that it should be charging both the starter and house batteries.

What would a skipper's life be without unsolved mysteries...?
