Knowing is better than guessing...! Easy installation and configuration - recommended product. So far I only had a display on the cable remote control in the anchor box on the bow. This is a bit inconvenient, especially if you are traveling alone. This second display was therefore installed directly in the Cockipt in parallel and could be easily synchronized with the HandyNFC. Of course there's something about 'twice better' or 'luxury problem', but I just feel better that way... ;-)

Product details

SMART CHC is a digital chain counter that allows the user to display the length of anchor chain lowered. The display can be connected to all windlasses that are equipped with a sensor to detect the rotations of the gypsy and are controlled by DC voltage ON/OFF signals (e.g. joysticks, push buttons, on/off switches).
If the windlass is not equipped with an integrated sensor, a sensor kit is sold separately.

Wireless configuration via dedicated app
The device can be easily configured using the QUICK SMART CHC smartphone app. Compatible with Apple (iOS 14 or later versions) and Android (6.0 or later versions).
Configuration options: Adjust brightness, change unit of measurement (metres or feet), reset measurement of lowered chain, activate and configure automatic free-fall function and much more.

Overall good, but with room for improvement

Works perfectly, I can barely read the display in full sunlight.

The connecting cables were too short, 1.5m would have been better for me instead of 0.5m. So I had to bring 5 cables together in the damp area of the anchor box instead of inside the boat as planned.

Hello, I am interested in the chain chain counter and I wonder if it has a limited chain length or I can use it on an 80m chain on a 12m long sailboat. I am also interested in how its function is activated, whether a separate switch or automatically, turning on the door or signal from the gypsy. Thank you very much in advance for your answer.

Dear Jiri, there is no specific boat or chain length for the CHC. Therefore you can use it for your boat. The Chaincounter is automatically activated when turning on the connected joystick or up and down switch.
