The best and easiest way to have a dry bilge and thus a safe ship is this rubber stopper. Very important is the venting of this rubber stopper with each new to water, as well as a small dose of silicone grease (including and also nachkaufbar) on the tread before or during the season. By observing these short maintenance steps, I drove with the previously installed rubber stuffing box about 12 years with dry bilge (a total of about 600 hours of operation)

The rubber stopper is easy to assemble and seals reliably over a period of about 5 years. Just to start the season a little special grease in the socket and the rest of the season is quiet

I use the stuffing box for years without problems on various ships. It is important to push the enclosed Niroplatte under the clamp, so that the rubber can not bulge.

Product details

This water-lubricated rubber shaft seal ensures effective lubrication and sealing.The compact design allows installation in small spaces. The distance between the bearing points should not exceed 1500 mm. Comes supplied with all mounting parts and a tube of grease. Available in various versions. Rubber shaft seal grease is also sold separately.

Only minimal maintenance is required: lubricate every 200 hours or once a year. Simple venting after winter storage.

NOTE: Lock washer no. 3 (in the manual) is only required for shafts from 45 mm (included).

I always swore by my stuffing box! In a pinch you can stuff greased coconut fiber into it if you can't find a boat outfitter in the South Pacific .... Everything is correct. If I ever sail into the South Pacific with my Mariholm26, then I'll probably put in a stuffing box again ..... until then I'm just happy about a dry bilge, a maintenance-free shaft seal and one less grease gun on board!

I am interested by this Volvo seal to replace my traditional stuffing box. But I don’t find my dimensions: - small dimension (shaft) : 38mm (1 cinch) - big dimension (boat tube / structure) : 64mm (2.5 inch) Would there be a similar product with those dimensions ?
