Add fillers to thicken the expoxy to the desired consistency for a specific job. Unmodified resin / hardener has the consistency of syrup and runs off vertical surfaces (suitable for coating and wettting out porous surfaces). By adding filler, a "thicker" consistency can be achieved (suitable for filling cavities, fillets, making large, uneven bondings and for use as a filler). Microfibres 403 is especially suitable for laminating.
| Consistency | Not thickened "syrup" | Slightly thickened "ketchup | Medium thickened "mayonnaise" | Maximum thickened "peanut butter" |
| Charcteristics | Runs quickly off vertical surfaces. | Runs slowly off vertical surfaces. | Adheres to vertical surfaces. Peaks droop. | Adheres to vertical surfaces. Peaks remain stiff. |
| Uses | Surface coating, pre-soaking before bonding, application of glass fibre, carbon fibre and other fabrics. | Laminating, bonding large panels with large surfaces, injecting with syringe. | Bonding, filler fillets, bonding of fittings. | Filling holes, filling grooves, bonding uneven surfaces. |
| Use | Microfibres 403 | Filleting Blend 405 | Collodial Silica 406 | Low density 407 |
| Bonding hardware (mayonnaise) - Increased joint bonding area and load capacity, maximum strength | Very good | Good | Very good | Not recommended |
| General bonding (mayonnaise) - Bonding parts with thickened epoxy resin to create a structural gap filler, strength/gapfilling | Very good | Good | Very good | Suitable |
| Bonding with fillets (peanut butter) - Increase joint bonding area and create structural bracing between parts, smoothness/strength | Good | Very good | Excellent | Very good |
| Laminating (ketchup) - Bonding wooden strips, veneers, planks, sheets and cores, gap filling strength | Excellent | Good | Very good | Good |
| Fairing (peanut butter) - Fill low areas and voids with an easily sanded surface filler/fairing compound, sandability/gap filling | Not recommended | Not recommended | Not recommended | Very good |
