Zinc anodes, also called "sacrificial anodes" protect below the waterline (hull) and contain metals which fight against corrosion. They need to be changed once per season, in aggressive waters, this needs to be done even more often. On some ships, which are mainly operated in freshwater, we recommend using aluminum anodes, since aluminum has a greater potential difference to other metals than zinc has.
