A top-of-the-line ship – you can't buy one like that from any major shipyard these days. I've owned my SO37, built in 2000, for six years now. During that time, I've converted the boat for single-handed sailing and long-distance cruising. I've sailed approximately 8,000 nautical miles in it, in all conditions up to 50 knots of wind and 56-meter waves. It's incredible what seaworthy boats were being mass-produced back then, at the turn of the millennium. It's not a racing boat, and it's not an expedition yacht for the Arctic – but for everything in between, it's perfect for us. We have the three-cabin version and sail it with anywhere from one to four people. The interior is well-designed, high-quality, and safe even at sea. The deck layout is nearly perfect, and the cockpit is huge. The mast, rigging, and sail area are very conservative by today's standards, but in my experience, they are absolutely sufficient! For me, there is no (affordable) alternative to this boat. ``` What could be improved? The engine option with the original 27 hp is rather weak, and the 35A alternator is too small (though easily replaced; I have a 90A one myself). The diesel tank could definitely be larger, as 125 liters is sometimes insufficient for long voyages. The original Facnor genoa furling system is problematic. Conclusion: If I didn't already own a boat, I would certainly choose another SO37 from this series!
