The Victron Orion XS DC-DC battery charger has been completely redesigned and is at the front of the pack when it comes to DC-DC battery chargers. It is ideal for use in dual battery systems that are operated by an (intelligent) alternator.
Thanks to customisable input and output currents, the Orion XS not only ensures optimum performance, but also reliably protects your system. The Victron OrionXS charges at full capacity up to a temperature of 40°C. The highly efficient aluminium PCB technology significantly reduces heat generation, eliminates the need for fans and ensures an efficiency of 98.5 %.
As an indispensable part of your Victron system, the Orion XS offers comprehensive (remote) monitoring and control options that give you complete control over your device and system.

Optimised EMC filter for interference-free FM operation
The marine version of the ORION-XS B2B charger features an improved EMC filter that enables interference-free VHF operation and is therefore ideally suited for marine applications, but also for other areas in which VHF radios are used. The standard version of the ORION-XS is not suitable for use on boats with VHF radios, as the EMC emissions are close to the permissible limit, preventing channel 16 from working properly!

Configurable charging - protect your alternator
You can use the Victron app to precisely set all parameters such as the input and output current. The correct settings help to protect your alternator from overloading and to charge the consumer battery optimally. Lithium batteries in particular can draw a lot of current, especially when they are flat - this can cause your alternator to overheat.

Optimised performance
The Victron Orion XS offers 5x more efficiency than its predecessors at 98.5%. This is achieved through the use of highly efficient components, while the aluminium circuit board technology ensures low heat generation.

Full control
Thanks to the integrated VE.Direct interface, the Orion XS can be seamlessly integrated into your Victron system. Monitor all performance data from anywhere and leave the rest to the reliable Victron algorithms.

The functions of a smart Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger

Parallel connection
An unlimited number of Orion XS units can be connected in parallel to easily scale the output current according to the requirements of your system.

Smart alternator compatibility
Thanks to the integrated motor run detection, the Orion XS only draws power when the alternator is supplying power, i.e. when the engine is running. The Orion XS is also able to obtain the correct charging current from intelligent alternators, such as those installed in Euro 5 and Euro 6 engines.

Adaptive charge algorithm The Orion XS includes fully programmable charging algorithms and eight pre-programmed battery settings. For lead acid batteries it is important that during shallow discharges the absorption time is kept short in order to prevent overcharging of the battery.

Comprehensive electronic protection
The Orion XS protections include overload, short circuit and excessive temperatures. This reduces the output power when the maximum product temperature is reached.

Automatic switch-off
To protect lithium batteries from damage, the charger automatically deactivates at low outside temperatures and when the input voltage falls below a configurable lockout value. This is to protect the input source ie. starter battery from deep discharge.

Charging booster with very good efficiency, charging current continuously adjustable via app
The charging booster is currently being tested during our spring cruise.

So far, it's working perfectly!

I've replaced my lead-acid leisure batteries with three LiFePO4 batteries. The starter battery remains lead-acid.

My charging and power supply setup now consists of:

- 1 x Victron 15A mains charger for the lead-acid battery

- 1 x Victron 30A mains charger for the lithium batteries

- 1 x Victron 15A solar charge controller for the leisure batteries

- 1 x Victron 1212 50 charge booster

- 1 x Ective 300S battery box, 300Ah, approx. 3600W, primarily for mains-powered devices including TV, cool boxes, induction cooktops, Thermomix, contact grill, air fryer, etc.

I'm still working on fine-tuning the settings, because according to the Victron Connect A0, the leisure batteries are usually charged via the 15A charger, which is intended exclusively for the lead-acid starter battery, presumably indirectly. My new charging booster seems to think, even when connected to shore power, that my engine is running and that it should be charging both the starter and house batteries.

Good marine DC-DC charger for LiFePo batteries
Does the job charging a 300Ah LiFePo battery bank from a lead acid starter battery 110A rated alternator. Easy installation and configuration over Bluetooth using Victron app.
Earlier models (ORI121217040) had reported problems with VHF noise.
I did not observe any such problems with this model (ORI121217050).
