Unfortunately, the quality varies.

I ordered this fan as a replacement for a defective SmartVent 200. It fit perfectly into the old deck vent and initially worked flawlessly... unfortunately, only for about two months. Then, even in bright sunshine, the motor would only start again with a gentle nudge. Once running, everything was fine.

SVB promptly sent a replacement, which initially worked perfectly, even in the spring with the sun shining through the hall skylight. But this one also stopped working completely a few weeks later; not even a nudge would get it going.

SVB sent another replacement, and this one is now working perfectly, but for how long?

Honestly, I'm quite frustrated. The old 200 lasted 18(!) seasons. How is it possible that this one, which is identical except for the reversing switch, fails after such a short time?

I don't blame SVB; they're not involved, but on the contrary, they provided exemplary service.

This fan is a good alternative or replacement part for the Smartvent 300. It fits perfectly under the stainless steel cover of the 300, making it a very good repair kit. However, you'll have to forgo the rotation direction change and battery operation. Simply drill out the rivets on the defective 300 to remove the stainless steel cover. Then place it on the 100; it fits perfectly, including the corresponding holes and bores.

Unfortunately, you can't expect much given the low price. Processing is typically “made in China”. When testing in the winter sun, the fan motor did not rotate at all. The locking is tricky and anything but tight against oncoming waves. SVB sent me a new fan due to the serious defects. Thank you very much for the great service! Unfortunately, this will never be installed on my yacht for the reasons mentioned above. SVB should think about removing this item from its range.

the second one was defective after a short time

Hello, we now have the second of these fans in use and it has only lasted 2 months, the previous one survived about 4 months of outdoor use. The failure symptoms are the same, the fan only starts up by pushing it and then it clacks loudly. He won't come on board again, he'll go back in winter and we need an alternative.
