Many thanks to SVB and Jotron. This beacon is a must-have.
I'd like to share my experience with this personal beacon.
It's a high-tech product. Lightweight, with an extremely long battery life (until 2035), satellite communication, and although it's not considered a 100% EPIRB due to regulations, it perfectly performs what you would expect from an EPIRB, and in any environment (marine or otherwise), with worldwide coverage.
The problem arose with registration.
Europe is a bureaucratic maze that complicates the registration of survival beacons. Specifically, I bought it unregistered out of ignorance, only to discover that the cost can skyrocket. I even spoke with the very helpful Jotron technicians, who acknowledged the problem. For potential future buyers (I highly recommend this product), I suggest ordering them programmed for the UK and then registering them yourself with your personal information on the UK website for beacons. Easy and free. As far as I know, other European countries are a mess of non-free registration entities and require specialized personnel to handle the process. The UK is simple, free, and accepts beacon registrations for non-residents. I must thank SVB for their enormous help in registering the beacon and their attention in finally getting everything working. And of course, thanks to Jotron. For the price of this technology and the battery life, it's a must-have for adventurers and sailors.
