Notes on programming:

This tank sensor must be programmed to the corresponding tank and the display used before dispatch.

Please complete our data sheet ‘Programming tank sensor’ and send it to [email protected].

The universal ultrasonic sensor TS1 is usable for fuel, drinking water and sewage tanks. No false readings due to deposits on the sensor. Easy installation on standard SAE 5 tank flange.

We will programme the sensor according to the dimensions of your tank free of charge as an initial service (see data sheet in the download area). Can be connected to instruments from VDO, Faria, Teleflex, Wema, etc.
Please note: If the capacitive VDO tank sensor is to be replaced by the programmable TS1 ultrasonic tank sensor on an existing VDO dirty or fresh water instrument, the SVB voltage divider, item no. 15060 must also be purchased and installed.

Delivery contents: sensor, cork / Viton seal, 5 washers.

  • 10 - 32 volts (12 v / 24 v electrical system)
  • Tank depth: at least 200 mm, petrol 0 - 1100 mm, water or diesel 0 - 2000 mm
  • Distance from the middle of the sensor to the tank walls or splash guard: at least 150 mm
  • Programmable output for ohmic or DC values (10 - 180 ohms, 300 - 10 ohms, 240 - 33 ohms, 0 - 5 volts)
  • Temperature range: from 4 - 65°C
  • for metal and plastic tanks
  • Suitable for fuel, diesel, fresh and grey water and sewage
  • Attachment according to SAE 5 standard (5 holes in a bolt circle of 53 mm), Attention: does not fit in CAN tanks
  • Installation requirements: Tank opening at least 42 mm Ø / minimum distance to the tank sides 150 mm / mount parallel to the media surface
  • Optional M4 screws required for installation, length depends on tank / installation situation
  • Electrical connection: 3-wire, open cable end, approx. 15 cm long / red: PLUS vehicle electrical system, black: MINUS vehicle electrical system, green: sensor output to the instrument

Notes
  • The device has to be programmed by us. Please fill out the data sheet in our download section. This service is initially free of charge.
  • The medium itself, the temperature, the viscosity and the surface properties of the medium (e.g. air bubbles) can influence the measurement result.
  • In conjunction with SIMARINE Pico battery/system monitors, the output signal must be programmed to ‘0 - 5 volts’ and the TS1 must be connected to a voltage measurement input of the Pico.
  • Although some tanks from the manufacturer CAN have a connection fitting with SAE-5 flange/boreholes, the TS1 cannot be placed directly on the connection fitting as its housing would come into contact with the surrounding connections. Installation would be possible using adapter 21594. To do this, the threaded holes in the adapter must be drilled through and the TS1 including its seal fixed to the tank with appropriately long fastening screws.
When programming the TS1, the value of the top limit must be set to at least 30 mm.

Caution in combination with AD converters
If you program the encoder to a resistance output, this does not work with purely electronic systems that read in a resistance (as with me, for example, with the tank input of a Victron Cerbo GX).

Research by the manufacturer revealed the following. Citation

"The "Resistance" settings of the BEP TS-1 ultrasonic transmitter do not emulate a real resistor in the sense of ohmic resistance, but work with PWM. These resistance settings can only be used with mechanical devices, as the mechanical inertia of the coil needle spring of the device causes the needle occupies an intermediate position in relation to the PWM indicating the correct tank level.
For all other electronic measuring devices, such as AD converters, MFDs, etc., the output must be set to 0 - 5V."

For me it meant that I had to have the sensor reprogrammed to 0...5V and had to install a special tank module (GX Tank 140) on the Cerbo GX.

The fuel gauge works perfectly. However, the supplied voltage divider did not fit with my VDO instruments specified in the order, so I had to build my own sill divider. ,

Hi! Can I use this All-Purpose Tank Sensor TS1 with Simrad Fluid Level Sensor https://www.simrad-yachting.com/en-gb/simrad/type/accessories/sensors/fluid-level-sensor-fuel-0-pk/ in order to connect to Simrad IDS multifunctional display? Thank you

Hello Igor, No. the programmable values are not matching to expected value 33-240Ohm of Simradconverter. A more simple way were to integrate directly one of those sensors in to network https://www.svb24.com/en/kus-nmea2000-tank-sensor.html

please let me know if I can use All-Purpose Tank Sensor TS1 with existing WEMA instrument? Thank you, Dragan

Answer from SVB customer service

Hello Dragon, if the WEMA-Instrument is working in resistance range 10-180 Ohm, 240-33 Ohm or 300-10 Ohm then yes. If it is working between 0-190 Ohm then only with limitations (not complete emptylevel or not complete fulllevel) because only 10-180 Ohm is programmable.
