A question about:
NMEA2000 Motor Interface / Micro-C / YDEG-04N

Flag of English Hello. I have 2 x Yanmar 3JH40 with C35 instruments. The engines are 2025 and would like to connect them to my nmea. 1. What is the combination of motor interface and harness that i need? 2. Do I need one motor interface or 2? 3. Ideally I want to connect it on my instrument side, as this is closer to my nmea network. Is that possible?

You need two gateways for twin engines, one per engine. YDEG-04 can be connected to your engine in two ways: 1) To 6-pin Diagnostic connector "C" using "Yanmar 4JH adaptor cable"; 2) Connection in series with B25/C35/YD25 display using "B25/C35 adapter cable". The second method is preferrable as no need to extend NMEA2000 backbone to the engine room. Please note that YDEG-04 is available in two versions: DeviceNet NMEA2000 Micro Male (YDEG-04N), and Raymarine Seatalk NG (YDEG-04R). Please choose correct version for your network. After the connection, please check LED indication. You should get green-green when the engine and NMEA2000 are ON. If so, both physical connections are OK. Then you will need to reconfigure YDEG units to allow MFD to distinguish engines.

NMEA2000 Motor Interface / Micro-C / YDEG-04N

Flag of English Hello, Štai vertimas į anglų kalbą: "Will this interface be suitable to connect my Volvo Penta D1-30B engine to a Garmin GPSMAP 720 plotter?"

Yes. YDEG-04 should be connected to the Multilink port on MDI box or (preferred) in series with the EVC tachometer. Note that all NMEA 2000 devices should be connected to properly poweren and terminated NMEA 2000 backbone, not to each other directly (even 2 devices). You need to deploy at least a Starter kit. You can get the following data from D1/D2 engines to the NMEA 2000 network: - RPM - Engine (Coolant) temperature - Alternator potential - Engine hours - Engine warnings - Fuel level (optional, only if the fluid level sensor is connected to the MDI)

NMEA2000 Engine Gateway YDEG-04R

Flag of English Hello, it is not clear to me how to connect this device to the Seatalk NG network as the manual does not cover this. Probably a T-piece is needed (e.g item number 98571). Could you please clarify? Many thanks

YDEG-04R should be connected to SeaTalk NG backbone directly, without a spur cable. YDEG-04N can be connected to NMEA2000 DeviceNet backbone using a drop cable up to 6 meters. If you need a longer connection for SeaTalk NG network, I can recommend to choose YDEG-04N with DeviceNet drop cable and A06075/A06035 adapter cable (DeviceNet-to-SeaTalk NG).

Thank you for your answer but I am afraid that I still do not understand. I have a SeaTalk NG network and the backbone is arriving at the chart plotter located near the helm. Here i have also The Volvo display is located less then 1m from the chart plotter. The gateway comes evidently with a Nmea female connector from what I see in the photo. Where is the male connector on the backbone line to which this female connector shall be plugged? Needless to say that when on the boat I will have no possibility to buy cables, connectors or "T" devices, etc. I need to know everything I need in advance. If I may, it would have been much easier if the manual showed exactly how to connect this device to the Seatalk NTW. many thanks

>> The gateway comes evidently with a Nmea female connector from what I see in the photo. This is NOT NMEA2000 DeviceNet connector on the photo, but SeaTalk NG female connector, which should be connected to the white SeaTalk NG male connector on A06028/A06064 SeaTalk NG T-connectors (i.e. SeaTalk NG backbone). DeviceNet connector has 5 pins, SeaTalk NG connector has 6 pins. Hope this helps.

Flag of English Can I use the yacht device nmea 2000 to 0183 to connect my vulvan to my autohelm instruments st50 wind & log and st4000+autopilot? Can I use the yacht device to connect my vulcan to my ICm505 ? Regards

Unfortunately, ST50 Wind instruments have no NMEA0183 interface ( only ST50+ TRIDATA REPEATER has it). I recommend to use YDNR-02 - it has Seatalk1 interface (so ST50 can be connected), and two 0183 bidirectional ports, where you can connect ST4000 and Icom505. Also it has WiFi interface, so you can control autopilot from your tablet or any marine application (like OpenCPN).

Flag of English HI sailors is this compatible with Garmin equipments? Thanks

Dear Antonio! Please specify exact Garmin equipment you are talking about. A lot of Garmin equipment has single-wire RS232-based TTL-level NMEA0183 interface. YDNG-03 can be connected to such interface, but wiring is slightly different than usual RS422-based NMEA0183 interface ver 2.0 and newer.

Dear Antonio, with NMEA-2000 devices from Garmin the gateway is compatible.

NMEA2000 Motor Interface / Micro-C / YDEG-04N

Flag of English Dear address, My Bavaria 55 Cruiser have a 2010 Volvo Penta D3 110-C equipped with EVC system. Would this device be able to connect to the motor and give data for the NMEA 2000 system to be able to read motor data on the chart plotter?

Dear Zoltan! Do you mean D3-110I-C engine? If so, you should have EVC-C(MC) system. #YDEG-04# is compatible with your engine. YDEG should be connected to X5: Multilink port of the EVC HCU unit, in series with the existing cable. Also check that your chartplotter can display engine data.

Thank you, and i will send a picture about the Motor so please check and give me the confirmation about the motor. I think the motor is D3 110I-C as the picture show but it is not realy good. What do you mean "YDEGschoul be connected to X5" What is X5? I have two chart plotters, main is B&G Zeus3S 12 MFD, the secondary is a B&G Vulcan 9FS.

Dear Zoltan! I apologize for my mistake. On D3 engines with EVC-MC, YDEG-04 must be connected to the 12-pin "Engine" port on the HIU (Helm Interface Unit) using the "EVC-A MC 12-pin C5:ENGINE cable", in series with the existing cable. I confirm that both MFD can display engine data

That Means I have to order 90297 part?

Of course I have to order also the 90288 Part as well?

Yes, correct, you need 90288 and 90297.

HI, I need YDEG-04R model, with Raymarine SeaTalk NG connector. I also need a SeaTalk NG to SPX Autopilot Course Computer. Can you heelp? Thank's

Please state exact engine model to check compatibility. SPX autopilots already have a SeatalkNG interface. However, newer Axiom plotters do not natively support SPX autopilots - this can be solved with the YDNB-07 network bridge.

NMEA2000 Motor Interface / Micro-C / YDEG-04N

Flag of English Device is not reading engine data (not sending anything to the NMEA2000 network). Engine is Volvo Penta D4-260 EVC-D. What can I do? Is there anything in the configuration file I need to adjust?

Dear Padure! Please check YDEG-04 LED indication – it should blink green-green. If first blink is red, check engine connection (in your case YDEG should be connected to any free port of the Multilink hub), is second blink is red – check NMEA2000 connection. Check if you can observe YDEG-04 in NMEA2000 device list. When both connections are OK, YDEG-04 should work plug-and-play with your engine, so you should be able to observe engine data on your MFD. If you have GREEN-GREEN indication, but no engine data on MFD, check that your MFD supports engine data (NMEA2000 PGNs 127488 and 127489). Add engine gauges to your MFD dashboard (if you don`t have it yet), and choose data sources manually. In rare cases, the motor may have a non-standard address on the bus, in which case it must be specified in the gateway configuration file. Check that you have actual firmware version on your YDEG-04, and update it if needed.

Hi, The leds are RED-GREEN. The interface is visible on my NMEA2000 network, and is is recognized automatically on my MFD (Garmin 922xs Plus), but there is no data from the engine. How can i check the firmware version on my YDEG-04 and how can I update it? Is there a way I can find the motor non-standard address on the bus, in which case it must be specified in the gateway configuration file? Thanks

If you have RED-GREEN indication (when both engine and NMEA2000 are on), you have issue with engine connection, Please try to connect YDEG into another port of Multilink hub. While you have at least one red blink, configuration file editing is useless.

I don't have another Multilink port. Tomorrow i can test with another boat, same engine, same MFD. I'll let you know the outcome. Thanks

Dear Padure! Are you sure that you have EVC-D system? Please tell exact engine model/year/specification number. If you have EVC-B system, you can have other issue. CAN buses on EVC-B can be swapped, so you will need to rearrange pins on YDEG-04 connectors.

Hi, it seems that this engine is Engine is Volvo Penta D4-260 EVC-B from 2007. I've just confirmed with Volvo Service here. What do i have to do?

Dear Padure! Please contact me via email ([email protected]) as it is not possible to attach image here.

Flag of English I have 2017 model Volvo d2-75 engine. Is this gateway support my engine?

Dear Tolga! Our engine gateway YDEG-04 supports only D2-75B/C/F versions with MDI box. If you have it, YDEG-04 can be connected to the "Multilink" connector on the engine's MDI (Mechanical Diesel Interface) box, or in series with the Volvo tachometer.
