„A kayaking event. The plb was put in a pocket on front of alife jacket. When practising a resque it apparently got tweezed between the kayak rim and the body of the kayaker. Although the antenna was not released for alarm and the activation button was hidden, this enabled the plb and a search and rescue was initiated by the danish SAR. The SAR operation was cancelled one hour later when the reason was found. Conclusion The plb may be unvoluntarily activated when exposed to localized pressure even when the protecting antenna is still in place.“

They support registration from a multitude of countries, so you don't have to live in the UK or register it to a specific boatMMSI. Great device which I hope to never use.“

The PLB radio buoy (Personal Locator Beacon) is a personal distress beacon that functions in the same way as an EPIRB. With a PLB distress beacon, the current position data of the person in distress at sea is transmitted via satellite to a rescue control centre, such as the DGzRS in Bremen.
