The life of a seawater and impeller pump is limited, even if maintenance such as replacement of sealing and impeller are carried out regularly. The reason for this is corrosion, which is caused by the constant condensation of the pump even if the engine is at a standstill. as well as material removal due to erosions as a result of the high flow speed of the seawater inside the pump housing. OEM quality.

Often small but steadily increasing leakages, usually at the bottom of the housing, are signs of a pump's demise. At that point. you should think about a replacement.

Not long lasting in the North Sea area

I have now installed 2 of these pumps. They were of the earlier type ST112, which is identical in construction except for the mount of the belt pulley. In particular, the sealing ring in the pump is the same and does not last long in the tidal area. After about 2.5 years the pumps started to leak. The Johnson pump installed by Yanmar lasted 7 years. With manual skills, you can perhaps replace the sealing ring (available from SVB) every 2 years as a precaution, thus avoiding the bearings seizing up. The life of the pump would then be limited by wear and tear on the pump housing due to running-in.

Unfortunately not a good service life

This pump costs only a third of the original Yanmar pump, but unfortunately it only lasts a quarter of the time. I used two of them in 6 years. After 3 years, the shaft of both pumps was so worn and the housing so full of grooves that it was no longer worth repairing. So the pump does not seem to be suitable for tidal waters with a high sediment content. What a pity!
