The BULLFLEX 4 has a 4 inch bolt circle, whereas type 8 has a 4 inch and 5 inch bolt circle. Thus, the BULLFLEX can be mounted directly to most gear types including Hurth, Velvet, TD, ZF and Paragon. These couplings do not work with V drives.
Find the right coupling in three steps.
1st step: First check the engine horsepower.
2nd step: What is the reduction ratio?
Here is an example using a 40 hp engine with 3600 rpm and a reduction ratio of 2:1.
Step 3: Calculate as follows: 3600 rpm / 2 (reduction ratio 2:1) = 1800 rpm / 100 rpm * 5.3 (load capacity of the coupling) = 50.4 hp max. power. BULLFLEX 4 coupling is therefore suitable in this case.
| Coupling type | Max. revolutions at 0° | Max. revolutions at 2° | Gear reduction | Maximum power |
| BULLFLEX 4 | 6000 RPM | 3250 RPM | 2:1 | 61 HP |
| BULLFLEX 4 | 6000 RPM | 3250 RPM | 2.5:1 | 52 HP |
| BULLFLEX 8 | 5000 RPM | 2500 RPM | 2:1 | 121 HP |
| BULLFLEX 8 | 5000 RPM | 2500 RPM | 2.5:1 | 102 HP |
Hi, I don't have flexible coupling yet, but hard connection between transmission and shaft. Both are Aligned. I wanna reduce vibration to the boat. Do you think that this could help? And how much? My engine mounts are new, so only way is this thing. Is it worthwhile for the price? Thanks for advices
The BULFLEX coupling will certainly reduce vibrations when installed. Unfortunately, we cannot make any statement about the size of the reduction because every motor and shaft installation is different. In addition to pure damping, the coupling is also able to compensate for angular deviations, absorb thrust forces in the axial direction and provides electrical isolation.
Hello, Does it have an adapter flange2 as a part of a unit or it should be purchased separately?
The adapter flange FLANGE2 is not part of the coupling and must be ordered separately.
I like to install a flexible coupling to my sterngear. I have a Yanmar 4JH2E engine (50HP output) with Kanzaki KBW 21 marine gear. Shaft diameter is 30mm and a Maxprop 3 blade propeller is installed. My questions are; 1.Which flexible coupling do you recommend for this configuration? 2.Do I need to buy an adapter ring and screws for installation?
Hello Mustafa, for this we need the gear reduction ratio for a layout. We have all the other data (engine output 50 hp at 3600 rpm, gearbox type and shaft diameter). For further inquiries please contact us at [email protected].
Sorry for my late answer since I saw your response just now. As said Gearbox is Kanzaki 20 and reduction ratio is 2.17. Thank You
