With the ARGO isolation diodes from Victron, several batteries can be charged simultaneously without having to connect the individual batteries in parallel. This prevents the batteries from affecting each other or discharging together. Voltage loss is kept low thanks to the Shottky diodes. Suitable for 12/24 V systems.
On-board installations often comprise two or more battery groups, such as starter battery, supply battery and/or batteries for bow thrusters and navigation equipment. Here it is important that these individual battery groups do not interfere with each other and are insulated. This, of course, means that the charging system must also be isolated. However, this makes the charging process more complicated, as either the alternator, the generator or the charger has to recharge the batteries one by one. When choosing isolating diodes/relays, always keep in mind the maximum possible charging current. For example, if your alternator has 50-70 amps output, a 70 amp isolating diode will be enough.
With an isolating diode, it is possible to charge up to three batteries at the same time from one alternator / battery charger without having to connect the batteries together. This isolates the charging current and prevents mutual discharge. Commercially available isolating diodes cause a voltage drop of between 0.3 and 1.2 V, depending on their design. This may not sound like much, but the result is an incomplete charging process and batteries will not be charged 100%. Our isolating diodes feature Schottky diodes with a voltage drop of 0.7 V.

Here the voltage drop is reduced to almost 0.005 V. For these diodes, a cable must be routed from the D+ alternator to the diode distributor.
