Product details

Know what's in front of you!
With 2D echo sounder image of the bottom area in front of your boat.

Simrad ForwardScan Technology
ForwardScan provides you with a 2D sonar image of the bottom ahead of your boat. In shallow, unknown or poorly mapped waters, the ForwardScan function helps you avoid running aground. It is also a very useful tool in the search for a safe anchorage.
The ForwardScan sensor operates at 180 kHz, reducing interference from the traditional 200 kHz. It also offers you:
Maximum view of the area ahead of your boat up to 8 times your current depth.
Example: If you are navigating in 3 m deep water, you can see up to 24 m ahead.
Nominal view of the area ahead up to 4-5 times your current depth.
Example: If you are navigating in 3 m deep water, you can see 12 to 15 m ahead.
Simrad ForwardScan is not a module for fast cruising, but a navigation aid for slow manoeuvres.

Integration with Simrad NSS evo2/NSO evo2
MFD systems. ForwardScan connects quickly and easily to any Simrad NSS evo2 multifunction display via the StructureScan port - you don't need any additional hardware.
For NSO evo2 modular systems or NSS evo2 systems already using StructureScan, ForwardScan can be connected via an optional Simrad SonarHub module.

Bottom Colour Tracking
Bottom Colour Tracking offers a solid 2D rendering of the bottom ahead of your vessel.
Make fast and well-informed navigational decisions, without needing to interpret the individual data points returned by the echosounder.

(Left: Bottom Colour Tracking with data points. Right: Bottom Colour Tracking only)

Heading Line View
Heading Line View integrates ForwardScan depth data with the heading line displayed on the navigation page of your Simrad multifunction display.
The line is colour-coded in segments to represent deep, medium, and shallow water, with customisable depth ranges to suit your boat’s draught.

ForwardScan’s forward range scale is automatically synchronised with the length of the heading line:
in split-screen ForwardScan /Navigation view, the full distance from your vessel to the end of the heading line is represented in 2D on the ForwardScan display.
Quickly reconcile ForwardScan data with charted depth and your present course,
for a comprehensive understanding of what’s ahead.

Easy Installation
ForwardScan can be installed on almost any vessel, with a 50.8 mm (2 inch) stainless steel through-hull mount.
The mount can accommodate 25.4 mm (1 inch) thick hulls at 12 degrees dead rise, or 19 mm (3/4 inch) hulls at 20 degrees. The cable length is 9 metres.

Compatible with:
Simrad GO (9 Pin)
Simrad evo NSS3 S
Simrad evo NSS3
B&G Vulcan

Does the ForwardScan transducer trasmit both forward and downwards? I.e is the depth measured under your ship or based on what happens in front of you while doing speed forward.

Hi, I have a Bavrai 44, so would need approx 13 metres of ethernet cable. Can the transducer transmit over 13 metres to a Zeus 3s Chartplotter? Also does the cable end fittings come fixe to the cable? Just thinking how big a job it is going to be to install the cable? Many thanks.

Answer from SVB customer service
Andreas M. | Jun 19, 2023

Hi Alan, the transducer comes with 9 m cable and a 3 m extension cable you can order with the order number 81735. The cable is a 9 pin transducer cable. It is not a ethernet connection. Since the transducer should be installed in front of the keel, the max. 13 metres of cable should actually always be sufficient.
