Product details

JOHNSON's UltimaSwitch electronic float switch features micro-electrical detector cells that detect disruptions caused by water and other fluids. The cells are completely corrosion resistant and are not affected by oil or other foreign debris. The switch activates the pump when the water level reaches 50 mm or more and switches it off again when the water level drops below 20 mm. An eight second delay prevents false starts.
The UltimaSwitch switch is a highly reliable, contactless switch with no mechanical parts or toxic mercury that touch the water level and automatically controls a 12 or 24 V DC bilge pump.

Broken after 5 years, battery destroyed at the same time
It lasted 5 years. Then the switch was still on, but not off. Unfortunately, this happened while I was away. The result: The AGM battery, which was only a year old, was drained to 0.1 V upon returning, thus destroying it. That was an expensive defect.

Reply from JOHNSON PUMP

Translated from English:
We’re sorry to hear about this. Based on the brief description and without any images, it's difficult to determine the exact cause of the issue. We’ve been manufacturing these switches for over 20 years and have experienced very few problems. Since the switch has been installed for five years, it’s unlikely that the issue was caused by reversed wiring or by mounting the switch below the pump—both of which could cause it to run continuously.

Another possible reason for the continuous operation could be a buildup on the sensors, causing the switch to falsely detect the presence of water and continue pumping, eventually draining the battery.

We are both willing and interested in investigating the cause. If the switch is still available, we would be happy to receive it for inspection. Please send it to SVB, who will forward it to us for examination in Sweden.
