When manoeuvring in harbours or other confined areas, precise speed control is essential.

With the propeller stopped, boats without an effective rudder system lose much of their steering capability. As a result, many boats struggle to maintain their intended direction without repeatedly engaging and disengaging the engine. However, this inevitably increases speed, making precise manoeuvring even more difficult.

With the Course-Keeper, the boat’s natural deceleration can be used to full advantage. This allows calm, controlled manoeuvring at minimal speed, guiding the boat accurately into position.

Thanks to its additional rudder effect, the Course-Keeper makes reversing particularly easy. It enables precise stern control and allows you to bring the boat smoothly alongside the dock with confidence.

Low-speed handling presents a challenge for many boats, as hull shapes are typically optimised for higher speeds.

In addition, environmental regulations often require reduced-speed navigation in certain areas. At lower speeds, course stability frequently suffers — the boat may begin to roll, requiring constant steering corrections.

The Course-Keeper significantly improves directional stability. Its effective rudder action reduces the need for continual steering adjustments, resulting in smoother, more controlled navigation.

Available in four sizes:

• Type 1 – for boats up to 5 m
• Type 2 – for boats up to 6.8 m
• Type 3 – for boats up to 8.5 m
• Type 4 – for boats up to 10 m

No drilling is required for installation. The COURSE-KEEPER is simply bolted to the cavitation plate.
For use with Volvo Penta DP drives (series 280/290), the VP (Volvo Penta) version must be used.
