The helmstand is where the boat is steered from. It makes no difference whether it is above or below deck. The helmsman, who is the skipper of the boat, takes charge of the helmstand. Numerous navigational instruments, technical operating devices and, if necessary, small computers are located in the helmstand. These instruments are used in manoeuvring the boat as well as to monitor important operating devices.
