Product details

Many sailors rely on low cost domestic barometers, which are inaccurate, have low resolution and very poor history. Several quality paper recording instruments exist but are delicate, fiddly to use and rely on paper which can jam when damp. The MeteoMan overcomes all these problems. It provides an accurate, high resolution barograph recording in excess of five days data on barometric pressure and wind speed. It is easy to use, reliable, rugged and draws very little power from the boat's battery.

The MeteoMan is available with an optional NMEA Wind sensor which provides wind direction, wind speed and external temperature. The MeteoMan provides reliable meteorological information for the yachtsman. The main display shows the wind speed and direction, the ambient temperature and the barometric pressure.

To assist in predicting future trends the unit also displays a precision barograph and an anemograph showing barometric pressure and wind speed for the previous five days. In addition to the meteorological functions the unit includes a marine chronometer, a stop watch, a race countdown timer, display of internal temperature and battery voltage.

MeteoMan can be connected to an NMEA Clipper Wind system.

Good device, essential for a professional weather assessment.

I use the meteoman without wind instrument. The setting is simple and through the integrated online help easy (if one can speak English). Only negative point: the barograph only dissolves in 0.5 mbar steps to make all my weather devices at home in 0.1 HPa steps. The clock does not display seconds, a pity, is therefore not necessary for astronavigation, for example. For some years, the official air pressure unit is, by the way, hecto-pascal (HPa), and not more millibar ... Perhaps it could be synonymous times the English hold it, even if the displayed value is ultimately the same ...

I hope the barometer is good
I'm dissapointed with this. It has a big display that displays just 2 things with very big digits. Consumes a lot of power - 1.1W (100mA current) when display light is on, 0.5W (44mA) with light off. Measured voltage is non sense - for a 12.5V source, it displays 11.8 - 12.0V. Temperature measurement is stupid - in a 21'C room, it shows 18'C when out of standby to 23'C if you keep it on; the sensor is inside the case and the electronics gets hot. I hope the barometer works, at least.

The device works well, but has three decisive shortcomings: 1. In operation, it produces a beeping sound that only stops in standby mode. Then you can only activate it after several key presses to read it. 2. The reading angle is relatively small. 3. The device generates broadband interference frequencies in the shortwave range. Conclusion: I will continue to operate my Wempe meteograph. Its annual operating costs of over EUR 30 are disadvantageous in the long term, but it is more suitable to see the air pressure curve as it passes. Since I only recognized the disadvantages when the device was already permanently installed, it remains on board as a replacement.

Can the - Meteoman barometer be connected to existing 2019 garmin wind instrument via a NEMA backbone

NASA MARINE

The instrument uses the NMEA 0183 sentence MWV to show wind speed and direction data. Check the NMEA output Garmin list to check this sentence is generated.
