We love our outdoor sports, but tend to neglect the dangers involved. Acciddents in nautre are unforseeable and unpredictable - and they happen more often than we want:

  1. Kite and windsurfing equipment can fail or break...
  2. Sails can tear, masts can break...
  3. Sailors or fishermen can fall over board...
  4. Kitesurfers can crash their kites or lose their boards...
  5. Swimmers and surfers can get caught in riptides...
  6. Bikers crash...
  7. Storms come out of nowhere...

Nature is the world´s biggest playground but it can turn into a nightmare in seconds. SafeTrx Active gives you the tools to be visible and call for help when fate strikes - anytime, anywhere, reliably.

Emergency alerts

Emergency alerts are intended for when you´re in real trouble. Send rescue alerts from your wrist directly to the affiliated rescue organisation and any designated contacts who will also receive your exact location and other important information like the gear you´re using.

Where can SafeTrx Active be used?

Your SafeTrx Active wearable can be used in many countries at no additional cost. Two factors are important :

1. The country must have a mobile network that supports LTE-M, the low-power, long-range radio network. The following overview lists all countries for which the network operators have confirmed that LTE-M works: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Hungary and the United States.

2. In areas where a rescue organisation partner is working with SafeTrx, the emergency watch sends the alert to the local rescue service and to your emergency contacts. In the event of alerts outside the covered regions, alerts are sent exclusively to your home rescue organisation and your emergency contacts.

Important notes on using the wearable

Please note that you must initially fully charge the battery after receiving the watch before you can use it to its full extent. Once the battery is fully charged, the watch automatically downloads the latest software version. Registration in the SafeTrx web app is then required. You can find these here. All further information on installation and using the watch can be found in the Quick Start Guide.

The Class M easy2-MOB from Weatherdock is a combined AIS/DSC distress transmitter and can be activated manually as well as automatically. In an emergency, the device sends an instant alert to all vessels in the immediate vicinity and ensures that rescue attempts can be made as quickly as possible. Powerful red LEDs and an integrated strobe light also increase visibility.

Weatherdock Class M easy2-MOB marine rescue transmitter approved to the latest standard
As of 1st January 2021, a new standard (ECDIS 63269 IEC 2022) for AIS MOB (Man over Board) rescue beacons has been in place. This standard states that all "AIS MOB" devices with DSC (Digital Selective Calling) also require a DSC receiver. It must also be possible to switch off all automatic mechanisms.
From 1 January 2025, the sale of existing AIS MOB devices will be prohibited and it is currently unclear whether the use of such devices will still be permitted from this point onwards. The Weatherdock easy2-MOB, is a class M approved AIS maritime distress transmitter.

DSC function
Alert up to eight vessels whose MMSI numbers have been pre-programmed via Bluetooth and the Weatherdock app. DSC signals can be both transmitted as well as received. If the unit receives no acknowledgement, it switches automatically to “open loop distress call” transmitting. This signal can be picked up and relayed by commercial vessels to forward the distress call, thus the chance of being saved is increased many times over.

AIS function
Parallel to DSC, the emergency transmitter sends an AIS distress call alert. This signal is received by all vessels with AIS on board within a radius of up to 7 nautical miles. The data is updated and re-transmitted every minute.

Highly versatile
The emergency transmitter does not require any special tools for attachment. Due to its compact size, it is suitable for use with a wide range of life jackets. Simply slide it head down between the folded bladder. The safety line is attached inside, e.g. to an existing ring with a knot.

Programmable
The MMSI is programmed using a flickering field on the screen. Cool idea.

Sensible!
I hope I never need to be rescued. There are also monthly running costs. Overall, the watch should have more features.

AIS distress transmitter
I can't say yet whether the transmitter works. But from the description it's a really great device that I will always carry with me. Programming to your own MMSI is a bit tricky because it depends on the quality of the screen of the device being programmed. It only worked for me with the third device (desktop, notebook, tablet). Only with this connection to the radio does the distress transmitter really make sense.
