Product details

Maintenance-free SMF VETUS batteries feature a lifelong electrolyte reservoir. Thanks to a special construction of lead-calcium plates and VRLA (pressure relief valve), water consumption is so low that refilling is never necessary. These marine batteries are about 25% lighter and 40% smaller than conventional batteries. They have a low self-discharge rate of approximately 3%. Maximum angle of use 55 °. Perfect for use as a starter battery for boats.

Note:
Connections: round SAE marine batteries (as commonly known by in the automotive sector), will fit standard battery terminal clamps.
On VETUS batteries up to 110 Ah, the terminal poles are located on the long side of the case. They are deeper and are equipped with folding protective covers that are flush with the battery top.
For 125 Ah VETUS batteries, the connection poles are on the narrow side and on the housing. (See picture), The PLUS connections have red covers. The polarity is marked by embossing on the housing.

On VETUS batteries up to 110 Ah, a "magic eye" indicates the state of charge:
green = battery is charged
black = battery has to be charged
white = battery can not be used, check is needed
Due to stricter transport regulations, these batteries may only be shipped by freight forwarders. Increased freight costs (forwarding) are to be expected. Not applicable if picked up on-site.

Hi, I bought 3 batteries. 2 for consumers and 1 starter. The 1st consumer one broke after 18 months, only 9.6 volts and the 2nd after 36 months. And the 3rd won't last much longer either. I think that's too short a time for the money.
I spoke to SVB because the battery is only 18 months old, I was told that it had been fully deep-discharged. That was the end of it for them.
I bought them because the same ones were in the boat and broke after 9 years.

Can anyone tell me if these batteries are suitable as service batteries for a sailing catamaran?

Hi Lydia, yes they are. But keep in mind the maximum allowed depth of discharge (DoD). Normally it is 50%, means, if you have a 100 Ah battery, you are allowed to use max. 50 Ah. VETUS recommends a DoD of 35% to achieve a lifespan of about 350 charge cycles. That means the batteries must be large enough to meet your energy needs without discharging them more than 35%. If you want consumer batteries to last longer, you should think about AGM batteries. VARTA Professional Deep Cycle batteries (e.g. #20803#) have approx. 800 charge cycles at 50% DoD.
